The Division of Chemical Safety of the Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHSO) has a Chemical Removal Program in place to safely remove unwanted chemicals from UIC laboratories, facilities, and the UIC Medical Center. Our trained staff is here to ensure UIC is a safe place to work and study by removing unwanted or unused chemicals from around campus.

EHSO provides resources, through training and our website, to assist in avoiding unsafe lab practices, protecting the environment, and complying with state and federal requirements. The Hazardous Waste Compliance Manager, Thomas Johnson, oversees all chemical removals, lab cleanouts, and delivers various trainings on lab safety and shipping of chemicals for research purposes. Specific questions on unwanted chemicals or concerns, please email chemwaste@uic.edu or contact a Waste Specialist at 312 413-2436.
